About me

My name is Fabian Kägy and I was born and raised in a small town in southwest Germany. Growing up on a Farm in a rural area, my childhood was mostly spent outside exploring the woods.

While attending High-school I joined a working group that was in charge of the lights and sound for all events happening on campus. After a year and a half, the student that was leading this group graduated and I got to take his position. From then I was in charge of managing who was going to do what for all the events and also training young students to be able to work the light and sound themselves.

Also from a young age, I fell in love with photography and art. My grandpa always spend his free time working with clay or doing art in general and he taught me a lot. It was also with him when I first picked up a camera.

In the workgroup in school, I was able to combine these passions by starting to advertise the events and record them happening. Our school was very supportive and let us try out all kinds of stuff and so we just grew our skillset in many different directions.

From August 2013 until June 2014 I spend 11 months studying abroad in the United States. Through Rotary International’s Youth Exchange program, I was able to attend Highschool there, while living with three families and experiencing different facets of culture firsthand.

While abroad I co-founded a company called “Arvernus”, focusing on online marketing, with two of my friends from back home, whom I met through the working group. We moved into mostly web development & video productions.

Back in Germany, I was able to join back into my old class and finish my Abitur in march of 2016. After being done with school I decided to go all in at my company and spend the following three years developing websites, tooling, and producing films.

In September of 2018, I decided to take a 12-week “JavaScript for WordPress” Bootcamp. There I met an amazing group of other students that I have been meeting with pretty much every week for the last few years. We take courses, participated in a hackathon, and even did a presentation at an online conference about our process. Also through the Bootcamp, I connected with the Instructor and came back as a Teacher-Assistant for the following two Bootcamps.

Since March of 2019, I’m an elected member of my town’s local council for the period 2019 – 2024.

I also have two dogs called “Finn” and “Maya”.

In my spare time, I enjoy going to a local dance school, where I spend 4 years learning “standard & latin” dance or doing some blacksmithing. Both these things are great for just spend time away from the keyboard and stop thinking about work :).
